About Maastro Lab

Organization

MAASTRO, Maastricht Radiation Oncology, is an integrated institute combining a radiation oncology centre (Maastro Clinic) with facilities for clinical and basic research. Research and training is carried out in 5 divisions Maastro Physics, Maastro Trials, Maastro Knowledge Engineering, Maastro School and Maastro lab. Maastro Lab is the Molecular Biology research laboratory located within the University and embedded within the oncology research Institute GROW (growth and development - www.grow-um.nl) and the Faculty of Health Medicine and Life Sciences at Maastricht University.

The strategic focus of Maastro lab research is dissecting the signalling pathways that sensitize human tumours to radiotherapy, with a special emphasis on tumor microenvironment. Maastro Lab has 4 PI led research themes: Hypoxia Signaling, Notch Signaling, molecular Computer Assisted Theragnostics (mCAT) and Bacterial Therapy. MAASTRO laboratory is fully equiped for cell culture, molecular and cellular biology and has access to state-of-the-art Optical Imaging (luminescence-fluorescence), micro-MRI-7T, micro-PET, micro-SPECT and a small animal irradiator with cone beam dual energy micro-CT. Research in Maastro lab is fully integrated in translational/clinical research carried out in Maastro clinic with an emphasis on lung cancer. This has already led to investigator initiated phase I trials of drugs validated in Maastro Lab.
