The Prof. Dr. A.H. Keijser Foundation was established in 1988, on the occasion of the departure of the first director of MAASTRO Clinic, Dr. A.H. Keijser. By acquiring financial resources, the foundation finances, supports and facilitates scientific research in the area of radiotherapy. As a result of the international character that the research has acquired, it was decided in the summer of 2009 to change the name to MAASTRO Cancer Foundation.

The Maastricht University Medical Centre+, the MUMC+ (the previous University Hospital Maastricht extended with the medical science and health science faculties of Maastricht University, UM), collaborates with MAASTRO Clinic in the area of patient care, scientific research and education. The Medical Director of MAASTRO Clinic is also Head of the Radiotherapy Department of the MUMC+ and Professor and Chairman of the Radiotherapy Capacity Group at UM. The laboratory for experimental radiotherapy is housed at the MUMC+.
