International Workshop on 4D Particle Therapy

Join us in Maastricht for the 2025 edition of the 4D Particle Therapy Workshop, a unique opportunity to exchange expertise on motion management in particle therapy. This two-day event will bring together clinicians, physicists, RTTs, and researchers from across Europe for engaging talks, discussions, and collaborative sessions on state-of-the-art 4D techniques.

Programme Overview

Day 1 – Monday, November 10 

Morning: EPTN WP5: 4D Subgroup Meeting (closed session)
Afternoon: Workshop on Clinical Guidelines & Recommendations
o    Systematic review & multi-centre case studies
o    AAPM TG-290 insights
o    Breakout subgroup discussions on clinical indications & profession-specific needs
o    Clinical site-specific presentations (lung, lymphoma, breast, oesophagus)
o    Summary discussion
o    Evening: Social dinner

Day 2 – Tuesday, November 11 

Expert talks on:
o    Upright radiotherapy
o    4D CT
o    Free breathing vs breath-hold strategies
o    Clinical evidence for 4D proton therapy
o    4D phantoms – panel discussion
Mini-oral session: Up to 13 short presentations from participants
Wrap-up discussion

Presenting a mini-oral

Would you be interested in submitting and presenting a mini-oral on 4D-related topics in particle therapy? The mini-oral session is scheduled for the early afternoon of Day 2. Please submit your abstract using the provided link by the deadline of September 8th.

Maastricht is located in the southernmost part of the Netherlands and is easily accessible by air, train, and car.

By air:
Nearby airports include:
•    Maastricht-Aachen Airport (MAA) – 15 min by taxi or bus
•    Eindhoven Airport (EIN) – ~1 hour by car or train
•    Brussels Airport (BRU) – ~1.5 hours by train or car
•    Brussels South Charleroi Airport (CRL) – ~1.5–2 hours by car or shuttle
•    Düsseldorf Airport (DUS) – ~1.5 hours by train or car
•    Amsterdam Schiphol Airport (AMS) – ~2.5–3 hours by train
From these airports, Maastricht can be reached by train, rental car, or shuttle services.

By train:
Maastricht is served by national and international train lines. You can reach Maastricht Central Station via:
•    Amsterdam/Utrecht/Eindhoven – Direct or with one transfer
•    Brussels – Via Liège-Guillemins
•    Aachen/Germany – Via Heerlen or Maastricht

By car:
Maastricht is reachable via major motorways:
•    From the Netherlands (A2)
•    From Belgium (E25)
•    From Germany (A76 / A79)  

How to reach MUMC+ in Maastricht

By train:
Take the train to Maastricht Randwyck Station, located right next to MUMC+.
From Maastricht Central Station, it’s a 5-minute ride to Randwyck.

By bus:
Bus lines 1, 5, 7, and 10 connect the city center to MUMC+.
Get off at "AzM/MUMC+" or "Randwyck Station".

By bike or walking:
MUMC+ is a 10–15 minute bike ride or 30-minute walk from the city center.
Bike parking is available near the main entrance.

By car:
Navigate to P. Debyelaan 25 using GPS.
Visitor parking is available in P1 and P4 near the main entrance. Parking fees apply.

Venue Inside MUMC+: Greepzaal 

The workshop will take place at Greepzaal, located within MUMC+.
Once inside MUMC+, please follow the signs: Route H → Level 4 → Greepzaal

Entrances:
Main Entrance (Public Transport): This is the primary entrance for visitors arriving by public transport (train/bus). From here, follow the signs to Route H and then proceed to Level 4.
North Entrance: If arriving by car or bike, you may also enter through the North Entrance. This entrance is located closer to the parking areas, and you can follow the signs leading you to Route H and Level 4.
Staff and signage will be available on-site to guide you.
